Had a chance to listen to Michael Mauro, one of the cinematographers, yesterday. Fascinating behind the scenes look at how this was filmed and how he approaches shooting video and images of wildlife. Several excellent points on technique and methods. And how to deal with mosquitoes. Never thought about mosquitoes in the Arctic. Came away with a real interest in learning more about the Greater White-Fronted Goose since they migrate back to Texas coastal marshes. Michael Mauro is with Truth and Legends Productions here on UA-cam @truthlegend. Also sat in on Lee Hoy's session. Lee was interviewed by Michael for one of his podcasts. A terrific day to learn from two of the best wildlife photographers/videographers.👍👍👍

I'm a beginner with shotgun mics and I use mine outdoor for recording birds. Using it for the very first time I was surprised about the good focus, but after a while (and after having analized the recordings) I found out, that the sound from the sides is recorded too, but 1) only the lower frequencies and 2) with a different phase. This makes the whole sound a bit like coming out of a toilet, and I have no solution for that problem.

I wasn't expecting to cry while watching this, but cry I did indeed. I don't cry readily, for what it's worth, but nature has a special power over me. As the credits rolled, I thought, "What a beautiful world we've defiled." I showed this documentary to my wife, expecting that I wouldn't cry again, but I did. Thanks for this little film. It really touched me.
